About Dr. Bruce
Dr. Steven E. Bruce currently works as an expert witness and consultant in varied legal matters arising out of criminal law (state, federal, and military) and civil law. He has consulted on over two hundred twenty cases and has testified in more than 50 cases. He has testified for both criminal prosecution and defense cases, as well as plaintiff and defense in civil litigation. For civil plaintiff cases, judgements for plaintiffs have exceeded $300 million dollars.
Dr. Bruce, is the Director of the Center for Trauma Recovery, Director of Clinical Training, and Professor of Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Dr. Bruce’s primary research interests and clinical specializations include the treatment of anxiety and affective disorders, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder. Specifically, Dr. Bruce is interested in conducting translational research incorporating neuroimaging assessment as both a predictor and outcome of cognitive behavioral treatment response. In addition, Dr. Bruce is an investigator actively involved in multiple capacity building projects in Southeast and Central Asia to improve the effectiveness of culturally informed empirically based therapies in individuals suffering from significant traumatic events.
Dr. Bruce received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. He then completed his internship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC and a post-doctoral fellowship at Brown University School of Medicine in Providence, RI. Dr. Bruce is a member of several scientific organizations including the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) and has served on several editorial boards.
